Spitting on a Birthday Card from Jesus

You know the old saying: “Two people can look at the same exact object and those two people can see two completely different things”. This train of thought can be applied to all levels of our life. The subject at hand is “The Flight Risk”, which I have been referenced as in the past. Being a flight risk may seem like something undesirable to one person while I believe that it is an elevated level of freedom. In my eyes being a flight risk reflects you’re belief that there is something better out there for you and you will not settle with shit that has been shoveled on to you’re plate. The Flight Risk is a man with options, standards and a backbone that could erect every last missing link. Some are content eating chicken all their lives, don’t get me wrong I flippin love chicken, but to eat the same meal you’re whole life is a recession in human progress. For fucks sake, why the flip would you continue with something that is not for you? Why present you’re jugular to the executioner so early in the trial? Me leaving a shit position while you stay doesn’t make me a Flight Risk, it makes you a sucker.

None the less the world needs suckers; they keep the engine well maintained but never even get a glimpse at the keys to the ignition. With out them society, industry and entertainment (at their cost) would be crippled. The suckers of this world facilitate my freedom not to settle like some dim-witted, scurvy stricken pilgrim. They are the back up singers to the world’s greatest voice; they are the extra buttons that come with a newly purchased sports coat.

Granted most employers are quite weary of the interviewee with a “jumpy” resume. I can’t say I entirely blame them; there are a lot of horrible employees out in the market. A potential employee should be individually evaluated and not be grouped because of certain red flag characteristics that they may posses. A series of short lived employment positions does not necessarily equate to a risky hire. Humans are blessed with the ability of being able to make conscious intelligent decisions, to not use this gift is like spitting on a birthday card from Jesus. I think this type of trend would depict someone who sticks to there professional expectancy level. If you ordered a Rib-Eye and the waiter brought you a filet of Salmon would you send it back? There is no shame in expecting to get what you deserve or wanting something better then what it is you already have. This belief should be translated to every aspect of ones existence.

I am a Flight Risk and I am damn proud of it! I have never been the type to settle or except. I have always wanted more out of life. I have always been curious about what else is out there. We live in a society that works you to the bone and then exports you’re marrow to someone who has no choice but to do it for cheaper. We have all been programmed to fall into line and follow the path left by so many mangled spirits. Take a look at the typical template of: being patient, get married, get a mortgage, get knocked up, get an ulcer, bowel rot, loose hair, loose friends, loose opportunities, keep ambitions for the REM sleep portion of you’re life and board that commuter train at least twice a day. A deviation from the norm seems like a damn good alternative to me, but then again I am a Flight Risk.

The Flight Risk: An Introduction

Let's face it. People are changing jobs more today then ever before.

Huh? No more free coffee? Good-bye! 2 Words: I'm Gone!

The good news is that all this turnover makes room for undeserved promotions. When one's idea of success is a 69.5, or whatever it takes to sneak ahead of "failure", then all this turnover is welcomed with opened arms. Picture that company in 10 years....

So, The Flight Risk.

Definition of Flight Risk: A Candidate for employment that shows chronic "entry and exit" patterns. Basically, someone who walks into a job, says "Screw this place" and leaves soon after.

This defines many people in America and is probably reason so many companies are changing their tune and providing catered lunches, work from home benefits, half-day Friday's, etc.

Not my company, who's recent "Making the Connection" people development exercise was based off an instructional "How To" manual that was most recently updated in 1987. Basically, methods used to manage people that was encouraged 20 years ago is still encouraged at my company today.

From my understanding, our company once instilled a 360 degree review process that was immediately abandoned when senior management received such poor reviews from us underlings....Interesting.

Not to hate though, all this turnover makes room for younger and younger employees. "Kids" that are on the same page as the rest of us. What has immediately resulted from this age drop? In the door later, out the door earlier.

Guess what? Sales are up!

So enough with the intro. I just wanted you to get an idea of what this blog is about/for. There are reasons people are labeled as "Flight Risks," so here is the perfect forum to answer why YOU YOURSELF might be one!
